The Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB) has developed Cultural Horizons of Wisconsin, a multimedia package of instructional video, CD-ROM, the Internet, and printed teacher guide about the cultural heritage and diversity of Wisconsin, with a focus on the present day. Designed for students in grades 4 through 6, this package takes an expansive view of culture, rather than defining it by or limiting it to race, nationality, or ethnicity.

While rooted in the social studies, Cultural Horizons of Wisconsin is interdisciplinary in scope and incorporates language arts, music, art, and other curricular areas. Its development and design was guided by the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Social Studies.

Cultural Horizons of Wisconsin is a collaborative effort among the ECB, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Public Television, and a number of school districts. Its advisory committee -- which is composed of classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, content experts, and public television producers -- oversaw the development of the instructional video programs, the CD-ROM, Web site components, and print materials.
