America's Quest for Freedom traces the odyssey of the United States to find freedom
and justice for all. This series dramatizes our common history pursuing that ideal. By
juxtaposing events usually studied in isolation, it reveals that incidents and eras which
increased freedoms for some groups often were accompanied by forces suppressing
liberty for others. Its theme is that, while our history is about conflicting and contra-
dictory movements, our historical momentum is leading us toward more freedoms for all.
