The works of playwright Arthur Miller continue to convey the atmosphere of post-war
America, and his social conscience and concern for human issues
provide an enduring
relevance. These programs combine specially shot
footage
and archive material to
set each play in context. Each episode focuses on a
pivotal scene, about 5 minutes
in duration, that brings out many of the play's
main themes. The scenes are filmed in
rehearsal and final performance. The
actors and crew are interviewed about their roles,
and whenever possible and
appropriate, new performances are compared with archival
versions of the
same scene.
