New Media Project Kicks off with "The War" Series

War Letters Logo

The Wisconsin War Letters geared specifically for grades 9-12,
is a part of the ECB’s new Soundwaves Youth Media Project
and kicks off with The War series.

One of many ongoing activities in the Soundwaves Youth Media Project, The Wisconsin War Letters project puts first-person accounts of Wisconsin citizens’ World War II experiences into
the hands of students who interpret these valuable primary source narratives through interviews, dramatic readings, video displays, and multimedia presentations. Completed
projects will be digitally archived where they can be shared with others in tribute to those
who were part of this important era.

The Wisconsin War Letters Web site (www.ecb.org/warletters) will be launched on September 12, 2007, and will contain all pertinent information for The Wisconsin War Letters, including media resources for creating media entries, details on how to upload and post entries,
submission guidelines, and more.

This project is coordinated by the Educational Communications Board, Wisconsin Public
Television, Wisconsin Public Radio, and the Wisconsin Historical Society. It is supported,
in part, by WETA’s presentation of Ken Burns’ The War.

Audio Description, (descriptive video or DVS), allows the blind and visually impaired to access
a program’s video content. Describers bring to life the key visual images, body language and visual expression needed to understand the program’s content. In addition, they describe
place settings, opening scene logos and special effects and other themes.

Says Marta Bechtol, Director of School Services for the Educational Communications Board,
“We are so excited to offer two of our latest programs in descriptive video format; this only increases the number of students who will benefit from the programming we provide.”This descriptive video is timed to fit between the dialog and only occurs when needed. However, sometimes the description needed cannot fit within a pause in the dialogue. When this
happens, the action will freeze for a few moments to describe the upcoming scene
