Programs presented by Wisconsin Media Lab have been cleared for school use, but those rights fall into a few different categories. Retention and recording rights for Wisconsin Media Lab programs are designated on each Series Information page.
School Year Rights:
Programs can be recorded and retained for the current school year. Tapes or digital files must be erased, deleted or destroyed by June 30 of the year the series is dropped. Recordings may be retained and viewed in subsequent school years only if the ECB includes those programs in future schedules.
Extended Use Rights:
Schools may retain a recording of an extended-use program for the life of the tape.
General Federal Fair Use Guidelines:
PBS Extended Recording Rights:
PBS has obtained expanded off-air rights and extended those rights to PreK-12 educators. For information on these PBS programs, see the PBS Teachers Copyright and Fair Use page.
When recording programs for educational purposes follow Federal Fair Use Guidelines; students may view the program no more than twice within ten days after broadcast. After ten days teachers may view the recording for evaluation purposes only. The program must be erased 45 days after the recording date.
