Videos, CD-ROM and Teacher Guide
Video
This instructional
television series is designed for upper elementary and middle school
students studying US history and geography. The 12 video programs present
the story of two young students, Duncan and Izzy, who spend their summer
riding the rails from Florida to the West Coast. Along the way they
get off the train to visit a number of interesting places -- St. Augustine,
Independence Hall, Cumberland Gap, Wounded Knee, and many others. The
events that occurred at these places open their eyes to the excitement
of American history.
CD-ROM
A major feature
of the CD-ROM are the panoramas that allow students to "explore"
a historical place such as the English colony at Jamestown. The CD-ROM
also contains more elaborate interactive activities, such as a challenge
in which students are asked to choose a group of American Indians and
help these people trade with other Indian nations to obtain a necessary
item.
Teacher Guide
For each module
of Tracks, the teacher guide provides learning outcomes, a
synopsis of the video program, suggested activities, and a list of additional
print resources. Activities in the guide involve use of the video series,
the CD-ROM, Internet and library resources.
